A case for boredom, wonder, and the art of noticing.

A raindrop falls on a leaf. Just for a second, it catches a ray of light, then slides down the curve of the stem. Gently, without urgency. You focus your eyes and watch it move, pulled by gravity, down to the soil.

You just witnessed the possible creation of life. An act as ancient as the world itself. And it makes you think. It makes you wonder. It moves you — and it makes you think again.

And as you slowly sink into your thoughts, contemplating the journey this single raindrop must have taken to arrive here, your ego takes a step back and realizes something important:

You are in the midst of a serious process.Your brain is creating — ideas, images, inspiration — right now, in this very moment.

And in that moment, someone watching from afar wouldn’t even notice the explosion happening in your mind. All of that unfolds in the span of a single second — and suddenly, you feel more awake than you ever have.

The spark was never gone. You just weren’t bored enough to notice.
